Is it better to wish someone a "good morning" or a "happy morning"? A good morning need not nescessarily be a happy one and vice versa.
More than 2000 years ago, God died on the cross for us. Is thata good or bad thing? One the day he died, none of Jesus' disciples were happy. God was humiliated, jeered at and whipped under the hot scorching sun. It wasn't a happy thing but it was certainly a good thing He did!
Why is it GOOD Friday when actually, such a terrible thing happened on this day more than 2000 years ago?
How would you know you've repented enough to get into heaven?
For example, what do you need to get into a good university, lets say Cambridge? How would you know you've done enough to get into Cambridge? If the minimum number of A's to get into Cambridge is 3, there could be a million other people applying for Cambridge that got 3 A's. You'll have to be better than any Tom, Dick and Harry to be make sure you've done enough to get into the uni.
If you steal RM 10 from your dad and your dad finds out, could you just return him double the amount, apologise and forget that it happened? Is that fair?
Let's say you tricked your friend and lied to him. This little joke caused your friend to lose his leg. How to make up for your mistake? How're you gonna repay him? What can/must you do to make up for what you did? Be his servant for life? Whatever you do, it won't bring his leg back.
Felicia prays 3 times a day, Zhong Xin prays 5 times a day, Daryl prays 8 times a day..How would you know you've prayed enough, read the Bible enough to get into heaven?!
The Crucifixion
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18Here they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
19Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews."
22Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
24"Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."[a] So this is what the soldiers did.
25Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," 27and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. (John 19:16-27)
Hebrew is the language Jesus used. Latin is the language spoke by those people in power. Greek is Lingua Franca. "King of Jews" was written in all 3 languages so that everyone could read.
Did you realise that even when Jesus was dying, He wasn't thinking of Himself. Instead, He was thinking of his mum. Imagine, if you were having a super duper ultra painful toothache and your brother/sister comes and kacao you, what would you do? Definitely won't layan them, right? You'll probably chase them away or ask them to keep quiet.
The Death of Jesus
28Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty." 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:28-30)
Did you notice that Jesus said "It is finished", not "I am finished"? "It is finished".. One of the most precious words in the entire Bible. What is "it"? "It" is Satan. You're a sinner, but since Jesus died for us, Satan can't say anything. Now, there is nothing preventing us from coming to God.
Once, we were stateless (nowhere to go). We didn't belong to anyone then. We were in darkness, condemned, under judgement. Like on a deathroll, waiting for our name to be called and get killed.
Now, we're no longer stateless. We're the sons and daughters of God. The veil broke means that we're no more in darkness. Light has flooded our world. God is our Father and we can go to God ANYTIME we like and are always welcomed. Does a father ever not welcome his children back to his home? No! We are no freed from bondage of sin
Jesus Christ has died for us and we are cleansed from our sins. Jesus has paid for our sins on the cross. If you broke your friends leg, only God can make it up to Him. Imagine the heavy burden lifted off our shoulders. You can't earn it, Jesus died on the cross.
What proof do we have that He died for us? How sure are you He's gonna take care of us all forever and ever? What assurance do you have that Jesus is for you? How to know for sure that God is a good God and we can surrender our lives to Him?
31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?(Rom. 8:31)
How do you know Jesus loves you? He died for you!
Nobody can challenge God. Who's more powerful then God? With God on our side, how can we lose? We're saved ^^
God didn't just SAY He was for us. He proved it by dying on the cross for us.
What else do you need that God won't give? If something is very important in your life, He'll give it to you because He put the desire there.
No matter however much we want to lead our OWN lives, we must not forget the price God has paid for us on the cross.
Help us come back to You, Lord.
